Luxor is more than its ancient sites. This gentle tour shows the living city, from the riverside Corniche to the old market streets, in a traditional horse carriage, and ends at the temple that stands in the middle of town.

You drive along the Nile at an unhurried pace, watching feluccas and cruise boats pass, then turn into the center of Luxor where shops, spice stalls and cafes show everyday life. A guide rides with you and tells you about the history of old Thebes, the Avenue of Sphinxes and how the modern city grew around its monuments.

The ride finishes at Luxor Temple, a beautiful monument built mainly by Amenhotep III and Ramesses II, with colossal statues, a long colonnade and an obelisk at its entrance. A stop at a traditional cafe lets you rest and taste something local before you return.

This is an easy, short tour that suits families, couples and older guests, and it is a pleasant way to arrive in Luxor or to spend an evening without a long day on your feet. We collect you from your hotel or boat and bring you back.

Your itinerary

  1. 01

Corniche, old market streets and Luxor Temple by horse carriage

Your guide meets you at your Luxor hotel or Nile cruise boat and helps you into a traditional horse carriage. The ride begins along the Nile Corniche, with views of the river, the feluccas and the cruise boats moored along the bank.

You then turn into the center of Luxor to pass through the busy market streets and souks, where you can watch daily life: spices, textiles, souvenirs and local shoppers. Your guide talks about the history of old Thebes and points out the Avenue of Sphinxes, the avenue of sphinx statues that links Luxor and Karnak temples.

The route reaches Luxor Temple, where you walk with your guide past the colossal statues, the colonnade and the obelisk. A tea or soft drink at a traditional cafe is the last stop before the carriage or vehicle returns you to your hotel.

Questions

How long is the carriage ride?

The ride itself takes around an hour. With the visit to Luxor Temple, the market streets and a cafe stop, plan on two to three hours from pick-up to drop-off.

Is the tour good in the evening?

Yes. Evening is cooler and the city is lively, and Luxor Temple looks beautiful when it is lit. Tell us which time you prefer when you book and we confirm what is available.

Do we go inside Luxor Temple?

Yes, the entrance fee is included, and your guide walks you through the main parts of the temple. The visit is short and easy, with only a little walking over stone paving.

Is it suitable for children and older guests?

It is one of our most relaxed tours, with little walking and plenty of time to sit. Tell us about anyone with limited mobility so the carriage and the stops can be planned to suit.

Should I bring cash?

A little. You may want small notes for tips, souvenirs in the market or something extra at the cafe. Prices in the souks are negotiable, and your guide can help you shop calmly.
