Luxor Museum and Mummification Museum Private Tour
If the heat of the day, or a long list of temples, calls for something calmer, Luxor's two museums are the perfect answer. In a morning or an afternoon you visit the Luxor Museum and the Mummification Museum, both on the Nile Corniche, in air-conditioned halls where an Egyptologist guide can explain each object at your own pace.
The Luxor Museum opened in 1975 and is small, with a carefully chosen collection from Thebes, the ancient name of Luxor. Statues, reliefs, jewelry and everyday objects are well lit and clearly labeled, so you can look closely without the crowds of the larger museums.
The Mummification Museum explains how and why the ancient Egyptians preserved their dead. Tools, materials and mummified animals show the process step by step, and it makes a good companion to the tombs you may see on other days.
The tour is easy on the legs, suits families and older travelers, and works well as a rest day between temple visits or as an alternative in the hottest months. We collect you from your hotel and return you there afterwards.

Luxor Museum and Mummification Museum
Your guide and driver collect you from your Luxor hotel or Nile cruise boat and take you along the Corniche to the Luxor Museum. You spend about an hour and a half here, walking through galleries of statues, reliefs and objects from the temples and tombs of ancient Thebes, with your guide pointing out the finest pieces and explaining who and what they show.
You then continue the short distance to the Mummification Museum, also on the Corniche. Over about an hour you follow the process of mummification, from the tools and materials to the beliefs behind it, and see how animals were preserved too.
When the visit ends, your driver takes you back to your hotel or boat.

Questions
Is this a good option in hot weather?
Yes. Both museums are indoors and air-conditioned, so this is one of the most comfortable tours in Luxor from May to September. It also suits guests who prefer a slower pace.
What will I see at the Luxor Museum?
A selected collection of statues, reliefs, jewelry and objects from the temples and tombs of ancient Thebes. The galleries are compact, so you can see the highlights without feeling rushed.
What is in the Mummification Museum?
Displays that explain how bodies were prepared and preserved, with tools, materials, coffins and mummified animals. It is a short, clear introduction to ancient Egyptian beliefs about life after death.
Can I take photos inside?
Photography rules in Egyptian museums can change, and a permit is sometimes required. Your guide tells you what is allowed on the day, and flash is usually not permitted, so please switch it off.
Can I combine this with a temple visit?
Yes. Many guests pair this half-day tour with a sunrise at Karnak or a west bank visit on another day. Tell us your dates and we can build a plan that balances indoor and outdoor sites.
